Backups & restore

Back up and restore your data

Kustos backs up your data automatically — daily, and after workouts when you leave the app. Every backup is a full, dated snapshot of your on-device data: workout history, routines, custom exercises, and preferences. You can back up manually, restore any snapshot, and move backups between phones from Settings → Backup & Restore.

Where backups live

Open the Profile tab, tap the gear icon to open Settings, then under Data tap Backup & Restore. You’ll see Automatic backups (“Daily, and after workouts when you leave the app”), a Back Up Now button, and a dated list of your backups. Each one is tagged — Automatic, Manual, Imported, or a safety copy taken before a restore or an app update.

Back up manually

  1. Go to Settings → Backup & Restore.
  2. Tap Back Up Now. The new snapshot appears at the top of the list.
  3. To keep a copy outside the app, tap the backup and choose Share file — save it to Files, a cloud drive, or send it to yourself.

Restore a backup

  1. In Backup & Restore, tap the backup you want.
  2. Choose Restore this backup. It replaces your current on-device data with that snapshot.
  3. Confirm. Kustos takes a safety backup of your current data first, so you can undo the restore. If you’re signed in, workouts already synced to your account sync back in afterwards.

If a workout is in progress, finish or discard it before restoring.

Moving to a new phone

Signed in: install Kustos and sign in — the workouts synced to your account come back on their own. Your local backups also rebuild automatically as you use the app.

Guest (no account): backups live only on your device, so carry one across yourself:

  1. On the old phone, open Backup & Restore, tap your latest backup, and choose Share file. Save it somewhere you can reach from the new phone.
  2. On the new phone, open Backup & Restore and tap Import backup file.
  3. Pick the file. It appears in your list tagged Imported — tap it and choose Restore this backup.

One honest warning for guests: uninstalling the app removes your on-device data, including backups. Share a backup file off the device before you uninstall. If you’d rather not think about it, creating a free account keeps your synced workouts recoverable by signing in.

Want your data in a spreadsheet instead of a snapshot? See Export your workouts to CSV.

Do I have to do anything for backups to happen?
No. Kustos backs up automatically — daily, and after workouts when you leave the app. Your first automatic backup is taken within a day of using the app.
Will restoring a backup erase workouts I logged after it?
Restoring replaces your on-device data with the snapshot, but Kustos takes a safety backup of your current data first, so you can undo it. Workouts already synced to your account sync back in afterwards.
I use Kustos without an account — what happens to my backups if I uninstall?
Backups are stored on your device and are removed with the app. Before uninstalling, open a backup and tap Share file to save a copy outside the app.
Can I restore a backup on a different phone?
Yes. Share the backup file off the old phone, then use Import backup file on the new one and restore it.
